ExploreLearning is excited to announce that Reflex and Frax won two Educators Pick Best of STEM® 2023 Awards. The Best of STEM Awards recognize innovative products, technologies, and services that are changing the world of STEM education.
Reflex, the most effective system for mastering basic facts in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, took home the Bridging the Gap—Math Intervention Resources award. ExploreLearning is honored to receive this award as a true reflection and celebration of how Reflex helps all students master math facts. “ExploreLearning demonstrates great intentionality when addressing gaps in math learning, and building student math fact fluency in a fun, engaging way,” said the Best of STEM judges. Using fun games and frequent rewards, Reflex supports the three RTI tiers and all levels of learners, including those on grade level, at-risk, and students with learning disabilities. In 2022 alone, students solved more than 12,100,647,709+ math facts with their favorite Reflex characters.
Frax, the adaptive and game-based fractions platform, won the Best Innovation for 2023 award. With Frax, students work extensively with length models and number lines to build a conceptual understanding of fractions. Using innovative technology, students embark on engaging Frax missions while receiving frequent rewards for effort and progress. Frax also offers offline activities, comprehensive support materials, and real-time reporting for easy and effective educator implementation. ExploreLearning introduced an extensive expansion to Frax in the spring of 2023, showcasing the innovation and passion to take fractions instruction (and student engagement) to new heights. “ExploreLearning employs a game-based approach with motivational, kid-appropriate storylines, and every Frax mission includes a debriefing talk to promote math discussion,” said the Best of STEM judges.
The latest research, determined by an independent review to meet the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Tier 2 rating for evidence-based interventions, found that elementary students using Frax had significantly larger academic growth in math than non-users.
Reflex and Frax: Better Together
ExploreLearning researchers found that elementary students using Reflex (for math facts) and Frax (for fractions) made significantly larger academic gains in math compared to non-users, with the most academically at-risk experiencing the most growth. Frax and Reflex users who scored two or more grade levels below in the fall had 56% greater scale score gains and were nearly three times as likely to reach their stretch growth goals.

The Best of STEM Awards, the only awards program judged by STEM educators, is operated in partnership with Catapult X, the National Science Teaching Association (NSTA), MCH Strategic Data, and the National Association of Biology Teachers (NABT).
